Eczema Treatment For Adults

Caring For Your Own Skin

If you have eczema, it can be hard to resist the urge to scratch or pick your skin. However, scratching, rubbing and picking your skin can cause worsening of the condition, resulting in unsightly pigmentation, broken skin and scarring. To help with managing these symptoms and reduce itching, here are a few techniques that can be useful:

Comfortable Clothing

Wear clothing made from materials like cotton which are comfortable for atopic skin and absorb perspiration well, thus helping reduce rubbing against your skin and itchiness.

Non-Fragranced Soaps

Use gentle, non-fragranced soaps to clean your skin rather than harsh and irritating soaps or detergents. This will help reduce further irritation and inflammation of your skin.

Moisturise the Skin Regularly

Moisturise the skin regularly – even more frequently when travelling to cold and dry climates, or after swimming, as the skin can become drier and more prone to irritation. Note that moisturisers do not cause thinning of the skin.

With these tips, you can better manage your eczema and minimise scratching, rubbing and picking of the skin. Allowing your skin to heal properly is key to achieving long-term relief from your symptoms. So take care of your skin and it will take care of you!

Manage Your Eczema with Us

At our practice, we understand the importance of taking care of your skin. That is why we work hand in hand with you to improve and manage your condition.

Our dermatologists are well-versed in the use of topical steroids and moisturisers to reduce inflammation and other symptoms associated with eczema.

We take the time to explain how to use topical steroids safely and effectively, while also discussing other steroid-free alternatives that are available.

For more severe cases of eczema, our doctors may recommend oral medications and/or biologic medicines such as Dupilumab, to ensure you receive the best possible treatment for your condition.

About Dupilumab

Dupilumab is an FDA-approved biologic medicine used to treat adults with moderate-to-severe eczema. It works by blocking two proteins that cause inflammation in the skin, which can help reduce itching and other symptoms associated with eczema. It is administered via a self-injection once every two weeks and has been shown to be effective in reducing the symptoms of eczema.

Our dermatologists can help you determine if Dupilumab is right for you and provide assistance with the administration of the medication.
